Another month has gone by and I’ve been flying through books. I enjoyed every book I read in August and I’m already looking forward to my September TBR list.

It Ends With Us by Colleen Hoover
Lily hasn’t always had it easy, but that’s never stopped her from working hard for the life she wants. She’s come a long way from the small town where she grew up—she graduated from college, moved to Boston, and started her own business. And when she feels a spark with a gorgeous neurosurgeon named Ryle Kincaid, everything in Lily’s life seems too good to be true.
As questions about her new relationship overwhelm her, so do thoughts of Atlas Corrigan—her first love and a link to the past she left behind. He was her kindred spirit, her protector. When Atlas suddenly reappears, everything Lily has built with Ryle is threatened.
I’d seen people raving about It Ends With Us all over TikTok and I couldn’t wait to grab a copy. My sister borrows books from the library all the time and she was on the waitlist for It Ends With Us, so I borrowed it after she read it and I finished it in two days. I couldn’t put it down. It reminds me of fanfiction, and there are a lot of cringey moments in the book, but it’s addicting. I already want to read it again and I’m going to buy my own copy.

Love at First Spite by Anna E. Collins
They say living well is the best revenge. But sometimes, spreading the misery seems a whole lot more satisfying. That’s interior designer Dani Porter’s justification for buying the vacant lot next to her ex-fiancé’s house… the house they were supposed to live in together, before he cheated on her with their realtor. Dani plans to build a vacation rental that will a) mess with his view and his peace of mind and b) prove that Dani is not someone to be stepped on. Welcome to project Spite House.
That plan quickly becomes complicated when Dani is forced to team up with Wyatt Montego, the handsome, haughty architect at her firm, and the only person available to draw up blueprints. Wyatt is terse and stern, the kind of man who eats his sandwich with a knife and fork. But as they spend time together on- and off-site, Dani glimpses something deeper beneath that hard veneer, something surprising, vulnerable, and real. And the closer she gets to her goal, the more she wonders if winning revenge could mean losing something infinitely sweeter…
Love At First Spite was an easy read and follows the trajectory of a classic romance plot. It’s enemies to lovers, which is my favourite, however the ending of this book didn’t do much for me. It felt abrupt and unrealistic, and took me out of the story a bit.

The Summer I Turned Pretty #1 and #2 by Jenny Han
Belly measures her life in summers. Everything good, everything magical happens between the months of June and August. Winters are simply a time to count the weeks until the next summer, a place away from the beach house, away from Susannah, and most importantly, away from Jeremiah and Conrad. They are the boys that Belly has known since her very first summer—they have been her brother figures, her crushes, and everything in between. But one summer, one wonderful and terrible summer, the more everything changes, the more it all ends up just the way it should have been all along.
I binge-watched The Summer I Turned Pretty when it came out this summer and I loved every minute of it. I was worried about reading the books because I read some comments that they’re sometimes cringey because they came out a long time ago, but I didn’t find them to be that way at all. The writing was good for a young adult book series and I also flew through the first two books. They’re different from the show, but I love both of them separately.

Interesting reads you took on in August. I am not the biggest Romance or Drama fan when I read but Love at First Spite & It Ends with us both seem intriguing for sure. Makes me wonder how they heroines dealt with their situations.
