I have never been a chai latte lover. In fact, the first chai latte I ever had was when I was in university and it was from the campus Starbucks. My friend LOVED chai lattes and insisted I try one, and she even made the argument that I’d probably like it too because I love pumpkin spice lattes.
So I went for it and was severely disappointed. Now, that could have been because the campus Starbucks was never consistent, but I just didn’t like the taste of it. Since then, I’ve experimented with iced vanilla chai lattes from Starbucks, which are delicious and perfect for a sunny fall day. But, I never tried a hot chai latte again until this past January.
My best friend and I were at Sugarbowl Cafe, located just off 109th St. south of the High Level Bridge, and I decided to try it again. It was a windy winter day and I needed something comforting. I ordered the chai latte with my brunch and I was extremely pleased. It was the perfect creamy blend of spices and it smelled just like fall. I highly recommend trying Sugarbowl’s chai latte next time you’re stopping by for brunch.
Sugarbowl also offers lunch and dinner, and the menu features delicious comfort food. If you live in the Garneau area, it’s the perfect neighbourhood spot. The patio is perfect for people watching and is a great way to spend a warm summer day. If you’re going to Sugarbowl for brunch, I highly recommend trying the feature omelette. I’ve never been disappointed by it!
I don’t typically order hot drinks when I’m looking for a caffeine boost, but I can see myself ordering a chai latte on a dreary fall day. Thank you Sugarbowl for curing my distaste for chai lattes!
Sugarbowl is located at 10922 88 Ave NW.
