YEG Cafe Highlight: Aspen Coffee Roasters

Aspen Coffee Roasters

Located in the charming neighbourhood of Ritchie, Aspen Coffee Roasters is a family owned and operated small batch coffee roastery.

I first heard of Aspen Coffee Roasters on Instagram when its aesthetic profile popped up on my feed. The business has been around since 2017, but the Ritchie location just opened in 2023.

I was most intrigued by the coffee flights — a selection of any four hot or iced drinks from the menu. The drinks are sample-size and equal to about two to three regular sized cups of coffee.

I visited Aspen Coffee Roasters during the holiday season, so, of course, I had to try the seasonal drinks. There were plenty to choose from and I ended up going with the Sugar Cookie Latte, White Chocolate Cranberry Mocha, Candy Cane Latte, and Ginger-Spiced Orange Mocha. Each drink was creamy, smooth, and flavourful. The Ginger-Spiced Orange Mocha was a bit too spiced for my liking, but the rest were delicious.

The coffee flight is $13, which is a fair price for about two full sized coffees. It’s also extremely fun to try out different drinks! The coffee flight is a permanent menu item, so you can mix and match any of the drinks. I’ll definitely be going back to try some more non-seasonal drinks.

It’s important to note that the cafe is quite small and seating is pretty limited if it’s busy. The first time I tried to go to Aspen Coffee Roasters for coffee flights, there was nowhere to sit and there were already people standing around waiting for tables.

The second time I visited, it was still quite busy but we were able to snag a table. Most people in the cafe were ordering coffee flights and they took their time to enjoy them. If you’re planning on visiting Aspen Coffee Roasters for this reason, plan ahead and go on a less busy day, like a weekday.

It’s also important to note that it takes a while for the baristas to make the coffee flights, especially when so many customers are ordering them, so be patient and be prepared to wait a bit longer than you would for a regular cup of coffee. It’s worth the wait!

Aspen Coffee Roasters is located at 9951 76 Avenue NW, Edmonton.
