One thing about me is that I love routines, especially my monthly reset routine. I have a million lists and routines for just about everything you could think of from skincare and cleaning to my day-to-day planning. This year, I’ve been following a monthly reset routine and it’s made such a difference when it comes to my organization and productivity. It makes me feel like my life is on track.
A monthly reset routine is a routine that you follow at the end of the month and can include anything from chores, errands and reminders to goal-setting and habit tracking. Deep Clean
I don’t know about you, but my life feels put together when my space is clean. I clean every Sunday as part of my Sunday reset routine, however, I love doing a deep clean at the end of every month. My productivity is at its highest when my space is clean and I feel like I can take on just about anything.
My deep clean routine typically includes vacuuming, washing the floors, wiping down every surface, and cleaning windows and mirrors. I also use this as an opportunity to declutter, whether it’s reorganizing my bookshelf, cleaning out my closet, or throwing away old receipts or papers I no longer need. Getting rid of things that don’t have a purpose makes me feel lighter and ready for the next month.
Wash Makeup Brushes
I prioritize washing my makeup brushes every month. It’s a task that I know many people find annoying, but it only takes a few minutes and then your brushes are clean and good as new. Your makeup will also look better than it usually does when you use clean brushes. I prioritize this task if my brushes are extra dirty, such as when I’ve used bright colours or sparkly shades.
Import Photos
I never used to import photos onto my phone regularly, and then I had a year’s worth of photos that I needed to import and it was a hassle. My iPhone cord won’t stay connected to my laptop, for some reason, so I had to import thousands of photos via airdrop. It took WEEKS to do and I vowed to never let that happen again, so now I import my photos at the end of every month. I also go through and delete any photos that I don’t need, so that I’m not wasting precious space on my phone.
Digital Declutter
I also like to do a digital cleanup every month. This varies based on what I feel needs to be done. It can include deleting old music playlists or creating new ones, unfollowing people on social media, deleting apps, deleting photos, etc.
Budget
I’ve been budgeting every month (and failing to follow it), but it’s good practice to keep up with. At the end of every month, I finish inputting my expenses into my budget and then I plan next month’s budget. Even though I don’t necessarily follow my budget every month, I like knowing how much I spend monthly and what I’m spending it on.
Prepare for the Month Ahead
Finally, I like prepping for the month ahead. I’ve been loving mood boards this year, so I’ll make a new moodboard as the seasons change or whenever I’m in need of some inspiration. I’m also really big on goal setting, so I’ll create a few goals to work on for the month.
I use my planner daily, so I’ll go through the month and insert any plans, special days, etc. into the planner before I forget and so that I can see what’s coming up. I also use this as an opportunity to plan content for the upcoming month.
