I love spring cleaning because nothing feels better than clearing out any unwanted items in your space. It does wonders for your mental health and wellbeing to have a clean space. It also boosts productivity, especially if you can’t focus if your space isn’t clean.
Creating a spring cleaning routine is a great way visualize all the ways you want to declutter this season. I do a monthly deep clean, but spring cleaning feels especially like a fresh beginning. Keep reading to gain inspiration for your spring cleaning routine.
Dust/ Wipe Down Surfaces
Wipe down every surface imaginable. I take everything off my shelves, desks, tables, etc. and dust them before wipe them down with cleaner. This ensures that you’re getting rid of all of the dust or hair lying around. I also use wipe down all my mirrors and windows. Most of the time, these surfaces don’t look dirty, but you’ll be surprised by the layer of dust collecting on them.
Vacuum
Vacuuming is probably already a part of your cleaning routine, but it doesn’t hurt to add it to your spring cleaning routine. Vacuum after you’ve dusted so that you get any dust or particles that fell to the floor.
Wash Floors
After vacuuming, Swiffer or mop the floors to get clean them of any dirt that’s been sticking around. Sometimes my floors don’t look dirty and I’m shocked by what I see on the Swiffer wipes. It also makes the room smell extra fresh.
Wash Makeup Brushes
I wash my makeup brushes once a month, and it’s made such a difference. I used to go months without washing them until they were so caked with makeup. My brushes feel much cleaner after washing them and my makeup applies better, too. Dirty makeup brushes can also cause breakouts due to the build up of bacteria and product.
Organize Drawers and Clutter
My drawers are always pretty organized, but sometimes they get out of control. Go through your drawers, cabinets, pantry, etc. and organize your products. It doesn’t take too long to do and it’ll make your life so much easier when you’re not rummaging through a messy drawer trying to find a product.
This is also an opportunity to get rid of any unwanted items. Throw out or donate anything that isn’t being used and is just taking up space.
Go Through Closet
My last tip is go through your closet and clear out any clothes you don’t want or don’t wear, and the clothes that don’t fit. Take pieces out piece by piece and really determine if it’s something you want to keep. Once it gets warmer, I’ll put away my winter sweaters into the back of my closet to make room for summer clothes. And, once you’ve cleared out your closet, you can build a new wardrobe. Here’s my guide on how to build a spring capsule wardrobe.
