My favourite thing about Sephora samples is that I hardly ever run out of mascara. I usually add a mascara sample to my cart every time I place an order to keep on hand for when I run out or for travel purposes. It’s also a great way to try new brands.
On my most recent order, I received a sample of the caliray Come Hell or High Water Volumizing Tubing Mascara. I’d never heard of this brand before and thought “why not try it?”
I usually don’t have expectations for products that I receive as samples because they’re free and I’m trying them for the sake of trying them, BUT the caliray Come Hell or High Water Volumizing Tubing Mascara impressed me.

The Product
The caliray Come Hell or High Water Volumizing Tubing Mascara retails for $31 CAD and is a clean, volumizing tubing mascara that’s zero-smudge, water resistant and long wearing. The baby teddy bear brush has wavy fibers and a defined tip, giving separation and maximum coverage to pump up the volume. An added bonus is that the tube is made of 100% recycled ocean plastic.
Highlighted ingredients include:
- 2% Argan Oil to condition the lashes
- Triple-wax mix and film-forming agents to elongate lashes and eliminate smudges
- Next-generation tubing technology delivers life-proof water resistance with easy, roll-off removal

The Review
Like I mentioned above, I had no idea what to expect with this product. I hadn’t heard of the brand before and that’s why I chose it as a sample. At first, I was nervous as the brush looked thick and the formula extremely wet. However, if you’re careful, it applies like a dream. If you don’t have a careful hand, it’s easy to get it all over your eyelid, but the results are incredible if you apply it steadily.
The caliray Come Hell or High Water Volumizing Tubing Mascara lengthens my lashes without making them look clumpy and it doesn’t smudge at all throughout the day. I was impressed by how long-wearing it is. The first time I used it, my lashes did stick together a bit, but I haven’t had that problem since.
The price of the caliray Come Hell or High Water Volumizing Tubing Mascara is average, but on the lower side compared to other mascaras. A huge draw to the product is its clean label and that the brand has a focus on recycled packaging.
Overall, I really like the caliray Come Hell or High Water Volumizing Tubing Mascara and it has become my go-to no-makeup-makeup mascara.
PROS: Lengthens, no smudging, recycled packaging
CONS: Easy to get all over the eyelid
Would I buy this product again? I would!
