When it comes to winter fashion, I mean business. I live in a city where the temperature can drop to -40 Celsius out of nowhere. In this weather, it’s important to have a quality winter jacket. Now, I’m a girl who loves options, which is why I’m sharing my favourite winter jackets.
If you live in a warm climate, you probably don’t need many winter jacket options. You might not even need a winter jacket at all. But, some of us aren’t as fortunate and live in places where we experience all four seasons to the fullest.
In the winter, I want to look stylish yet not freeze. Finding a winter jacket that does both, can be challenging. There are many cute winter jackets out there, but they don’t provide any warmth. On the other hand, there are many winter jackets out there that will keep you warm and toasty, but will make you look like a walking marshmallow.
Over the years, I’ve prioritized looking cute over being warm, but that all changed a year ago when I went to an outdoor snowboarding event. I was outdoors for over 8 hours in -10 to -20 degrees celsius weather, and it was at that moment that I realized I had no warm winter jackets. I have never been that cold in my life and I made it my mission to find warm, stylish winter jackets. So, here you go!
Here are my favourite winter jackets that will keep you warm and looking cute all season long!

My Top 3 Must-Have Winter Jackets
If you live somewhere cold, a puffer jacket is a must. Some people prefer long or short puffer jackets, but I think you should have one of each. My other favourite winter jacket is a wool coat. This is my go-to for staying warm while looking stylish. Here’s why you should add these staples to your closet!
Long Puffer Jackets
Long puffer jackets are the best jacket for keeping you warm for extended periods of time. If you’re going to be outside for a few hours, a long puffer jacket is your best option. It keeps your whole body warm, from your neck down to your calves.
When I was at the aforementioned snowboarding event, almost every girl was wearing an Artizia Super Puff Long or something similar, and I was extremely jealous. I even debated buying an Aritzia Super Puff, but I couldn’t justify the price. I’ve heard that they are worth the price, but I’ve found so many similar, budget-friendly options.
I ended up buying mine from Old Navy. It’s no longer available online, but it is the warmest winter jacket I’ve ever owned. I wear it all the time when I’m going for outdoor walks. Yes, it does kind of make me look like I’m wearing a sleeping bag, but that’s kind of the vibe with these long puffer jackets.
The Aritzia The Super Puff Long and the Lululemon Wunder Puff Long Jacket are two great options if you’re looking for a long puffer jacket.
Short Puffer Jackets
On the other hand, you should also have a short puffer jacket on hand. A short puffer is ideal for shorter time periods outside and comes in a variety of fashionable styles. I also bought my short puffer from Old Navy and it’s become my everyday winter jacket. My long puffer is black, so I decided to go bold with my short puffer and bought it in hot pink.
The Aritzia The Super Puff and Lululemon Wunder Puff Cropped Jacket are high quality short puffers, but they are pricy. The Old Navy Quilted Puffer Jacket is a great budget-friendly option.
Wool Coats
My go-to stylish winter coat is a long wool coat. These jackets are timeless and are perfect for fall and winter. Their natural insulating properties make them ideal for colder temperatures and they provide ample warmth without feeling too heavy.
You can find wool coats in a variety of styles, from slouchy to belted, patterned or solid coloured. A wool coat can be your everyday winter coat, or you can buy a bold colour or patterned wool coat for when you really want to make a statement.
Here’s the thing, 100% wool coats are expensive, however, these will keep you the warmest. They’re also higher quality, so they’ll last longer. If you’re on a budget, opt for a wool-blend coat. Now, these won’t keep you as warm and they might not last as long, but they are still a decent option. Avoid coats that are 100% polyester, as these won’t keep you warm and they won’t last.
My favourite wool blend coat is the Abercrombie Wool Blend Dad Coat, which is a 50% wool and 50% polyester blend. I wouldn’t wear it for hours outdoors in the cold, but it’s a great everyday coat for going to work or running errands in the winter.
The Abercrombie Heavy Weight Wool Blend Blazer Coat is a shorter, more structured version of the dad coat and is another budget-friendly option. If you want higher end, I’d suggest the Aritzia The Slouch Coat. This coat has bee on my wish list for years. It’s an investment, but it’s a timeless staple.
