I can’t believe it’s already November! Time is going by so fast and life has been especially busy lately. I have so many new books that I need to read, but I needed a pick-me-up, so I decided to spend October reading one of my favourite series — The Selection by Kiera Cass.
I usually divide my monthly book review roundups by book, but this is a series by the same author, so I’m going to do one general review for the entire series for my October Book Review Roundup.

The Selection Series by Kiera Cass
I always describe The Selection by Kiera Cass as a dystopian version of The Bachelor. The series takes place in the future after the Fourth World War has ravaged the world, especially North America. The country is divided into provinces and castes, with Ones being the royal family and Eights being homeless. It is tradition for the royal family to have a Selection when the prince comes of age for him to find his future wife, and one girl from each province is chosen to take part.
America Singer already has the life she wants as a five, and she’s already found love, but she can’t argue that the financial compensation from The Selection would help her family. She enters knowing the odds of her being selected are slim to none, but her entire world shifts when her name is called on TV. Can she forget about the love she’s leaving behind to give the prince a fair chance or will the competition, jealousy, and strict rules leave her feeling stuck in a gilded cage?
I’ve loved The Selection ever since I read it for the first time years ago and I make a point to read it every year. There is drama, jealousy, and romance. There’s even a love triangle thrown in there which always makes a plot more interesting. I always read the series so fast because I can’t put it down.
The Selection series makes me happy, sad, angry, and excited all at once. I can’t say what exactly about the book makes me feel those feelings without spoiling it, but I’ll just say that it’s a must-read. It is a young adult book, so keep that in mind, but it is written so well and the plot is engaging and exciting. You might not enjoy the series if you’re older than 25 because it is about seventeen year olds, but it’s amazing if you can get past that.
A movie for The Selection is currently in the works with Netflix.
I give The Selection Series 5/5 stars.
