A place where you can get coffee, cake and other types of delicious treats is my idea of paradise. Especially when the shop is decorated with vintage furniture and trinkets. The Art of Cake, located near downtown Edmonton, is such a place.
The adorable bakery and cafe has a special place in my heart — it was the cafe my friend and I went to the day before all of our university classes were cancelled because of the pandemic. Whenever I go there, I think of that time before our entire world shifted.
I recently went for the first time since before the pandemic and I was reminded why I love the place so much. There is ample seating with an eclectic variety of cozy chairs. I went for lunch after a stressful morning at work and the atmosphere and aroma of baked goods was exactly what I needed to relax.
I ordered the egg salad sandwich, a slice of banana chocolate chip cake and an iced vanilla latte. The sandwich was bigger than I expected, which is a good thing, and it was stuffed with egg salad. It was extremely messy and delicious. The side salad was sweet.
My favourite part of the meal was definitely the banana chocolate chip cake. The slice was huge, and I was so full from my sandwich that I sadly couldn’t finish it all. It was chewy, sweet and delicious. I’d order it again.
Head to the Art of Cake for a light lunch or dessert. The display case also had ready-to-go full size cakes and cupcakes. You can also place custom orders in advance to pick up.
The Art of Cake is located at 11811 105 Ave.
