Makeup Monday: Essence Lash Princess Mascara

Happy Makeup Monday! There are so many mascaras out there that it can be confusing deciding on the one best for you. There’s regular and waterproof, brown and black, lengthening and volumizing. My point is that there are so many options! And don’t even get me started on drugstore vs. high end. 

I’ve always been a high end mascara type of person, but I’ve discovered recently that drugstore mascaras are comparable to high end mascaras, and even better in some cases. A lot of people rave about the Essence Lash Princess mascara, especially its price tag. I’ve never tried Essence products before, but decided to give the mascara a go.

The Product

Essence Makeup is a brand dedicated to affordable, high quality beauty products. The Essence Lash Princess Mascara gives dramatic length and a false lash effect. It retails for about $12 CAD on Amazon (but is much cheaper at your local drugstore). 

Lash Princess comes in five different formulas: curl, false lash waterproof, sculpted volume, volume, and false lash. Lash Princess is ophthalmologically tested, paraben free and cruelty free.

The Review

I bought the Essence Lash Princess mascara in the false lash waterproof formula because it was the only one my neighbourhood drugstore had in stock. I never buy waterproof mascaras because I’ve always found the formulas difficult to remove. 

However, I went to the store with the sole intention of purchasing the Essence Lash Princess mascara and the waterproof formula was the only one available so I went with it and I was pleasantly surprised. I tested out the mascara on a regular work day and it held up throughout the day without smudging underneath my eyes. It was also easy to remove at the end of the day and didn’t require obsessive scrubbing. 

I don’t use the mascara daily, but I do wear it for special events because I know it won’t smudge. Sometimes I’ll even layer it over my regular mascara for extra protection. True to its description, it volumizes and lengthens the lashes. It’s a very dramatic finish. My one complaint is that it can be clumpy sometimes, which is why I often layer it over another mascara.

PROS: Doesn’t smudge, lengthens, inexpensive

CONS: Clumps

Would I buy this product again? I would, but I would still love to try the non-water proof version.
