Happy Makeup Monday! Today I’m going to be reviewing the NARS Pro-Prime™ Smudge Proof Eyeshadow Base, but first, let’s talk about eyeshadow primers.
There are a lot of opinions on whether or not eyeshadow primer is necessary. Some people use concealer on the eyelid, some use primer, and some don’t use anything at all. I was in the latter category for many years, until I noticed my eyelids started to get greasy throughout the day. If you’ve been there before then you know it’s not good. Your eyeshadow starts creasing and all of a sudden you look like a mess. This is when I started investing in eyeshadow primers, but it took me a while to find one that works.
There are lots of good ones on the market, and it depends on your skin type too, but the best one I’ve tried is the NARS Pro-Prime™ Smudge Proof Eyeshadow Base. Keep reading to find out more.

The Product
The NARS Pro-Prime™ Smudge Proof Eyeshadow Base retails for $34 CAD and comes in three shades: original (white), medium, and dark. The primer is a lightweight cream formula that keeps powder and cream eyeshadows looking fresh all day.
The primer is scent-free and smudge proof, meaning your eyeshadow won’t move. It uses a unique polymer and mineral powder blend to grip the eyeshadow and make the colour pop. The base dries on contact and leaves the eyelid smooth and ready for eyeshadow application.
The Review
Like I said, I’ve tried many eyeshadow primers before and this one really stands out for me. My favourite part about it is that it comes with an applicator. You don’t need to squeeze a tube to get the product out, which is great because there’s nothing worse than squeezing out too much product.
The brush makes it easy to apply. I dab it onto my eyelid and then use my fingers to blend it all over. It dries instantly and leaves the eyelid a bit sticky, which allows the powder to stay in place. Some eye primers don’t allow powder eyeshadow to blend well, but I haven’t had that issue with the NARS Pro-Prime™ Smudge Proof Eyeshadow Base.
The other great thing about the NARS Pro-Prime™ Smudge Proof Eyeshadow Base is that it doesn’t crease all day. My eyeshadow looks exactly the way it did when I applied it in the morning. It’s also super lightweight and thin, so it doesn’t feel heavy on the eyelid either.
PROS: Lightweight, scent-free, well-priced, and has an applicator brush
CONS: None
Would I buy it again? Yes, I would. It is a great eyeshadow primer and I always go back to it, even after trying other primers.
