Edmonton has a new coffee shop in town! Stopgap Coffee opened its doors last weekend in a charming brick house in the Oliver neighborhood. What does Stopgap mean? It’s a temporary means of satisfying a need, and coffee is definitely a need.
I stopped in at Stopgap during their grand opening. There was a line out the door for about 10 minutes, but it was worth the wait. Stopgap has a menu of classic drinks like drip coffee, flat whites, lattes and cappuccinos. They also had a few specialty croissants for sale from Chocorrant with flavours like almond, lemon meringue and matcha. I went with a smores croissant and vanilla almond latte.
There are a few spaces inside to sit, like a large boardroom-style dining table and comfy chairs by the windows, but I took my order to-go. The latte was the fix I needed after an early morning spin class, and the croissant was otherworldly. It was ginormous and took a few minutes to eat, but it was delicious and decadent. It was smothered in melted marshmallow and filled with chocolate. I highly recommend it.
Another thing to mention about Stopgap is the decor. I’m still thinking about the floral wallpaper behind the coffee bar. There is also a cabinet with a few locally made goods for sale.
Stop in, browse and grab a coffee. Stopgap is also located near the river valley, so take your coffee to-go and head out for a leisurely walk.
Stopgap Coffee is located at 9749 111 St. NW, Edmonton, AB
